Cider and Perry producers - full list arranged by county

Jump to: navigation, search

A list of cider or perry producers organised by alphabetical county and country. It's always best to phone ahead before visiting small cider makers as to most of them cider is a sideline, and it's always worth checking whether you should or may bring your own cider storage containers.

Comments, additions and further details are most welcome. The biggest concentration of producers are to be found in the traditional cidermaking counties of Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire who have their own pages now, all others are below.

Bedfordshire

Society of cider makers seeking to reintroduce cider making back into North Bedfordshire. Have recently linked up with an old orchard at Whimple in Devon, and have blended both cider apples and local Bedfordshire varieties. Also started own orchard with several cider apple varieties in North Beds including Dabinett, Kingston Black and some rare Bedfordshire desert apples.

Produce dry 'Village Idiot' brand cider from 'Whatever we can get our thieving hands on' - Jamie Stanbridge. Not above scrumping from the HCS orchard once we have found it. Plan on augmenting local supplies of cooking and dessert apples (but not the 'sandy' variety favoured by our local rivals) for 2008 from Dorset cider orchards. Access to limitless land for own orchard.

Wales

Cider-making in south-east Wales was almost as prolific as in Herefordshire and the West Country during the 18th century and almost every farm would have had orchards. From the fruit they would produce cider in the autumn to be drunk by the farm labour force the following year, especially during the busy times of hay-making and harvest. Normally every labourer was given a daily allowance of cider, accepted as part of the weekly wage. The Welsh Perry & Cider Society has a website with information, news and events.
