  • This years Apple Day events are listed on the Common Ground Website, and take place on or around the 21st October.
  • Apple Week, Aberaeron, West Wales at National Trust property, Llanerchaeron website, 21-29th October- Cider making demonstrations and sales via Toloja Orchards on 24th and 28th
  • Apple Weekend, National Botanic Gardens of Wales website, 21-22nd October- Cider making demonstrations and sales via Toloja Orchards on 22nd

This will be the 3rd Apple weekend held at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and we hope to make it even bigger. We will have a huge display of apple's from all over the UK, a Quiz for both adults and children not to forget the longest peel cometition and an interesting talk about apple trees on site at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Bring in apples found in your own garden and find out what they are. a great weekend for the family.

  • Sausage, Cheese, and Cider Festival - Greyhound Inn, Corfe Castle, Dorset - Dorset Food Week is from 21st - 29th October with the Greyhound promising '...almost 3 dozen varieties of cider from the south west'. Exact dates of festival during the week tbc.

  • Borough Market, London, Saturday 21st October - To mark the celebrations for Borough Market's 250th birthday, the Worshipful company of Fruiterers 400 years, the stunning display of apples and pears from the National Fruit Show will be staged at the Market.

Come, see and taste some the varieties available, and meet the people who grow them.

You will be able to buy some of the very best of British apples and pears, apple juice, Bramley apple pies, cobnuts and cider.

Cider making demonstation 11-4pm by New Forest Cider on Stoney Street opposite the Wheatsheaf pub.

CAMRA's UK national "Cider Pub of the Year 2006" and Chesterfield CAMRA's "Pub of the Year 2006". The Old Poet's Corner
Including between 12 and 15 Ciders and Perries (to be confirmed - but sampled a lovely pint of Dunkerton's last night...) and various APPLE / cider-related activities, including talk and presentation on Cider Making by local amateur cider-maker on evening of Thursday 19th October, starting at 8:00pm.   • New Forest Cider (Sat 14th - Sun 15th) Pound Lane, Burley, Ringwood, Hants. BH24 4ED (01425 403589) - '...Steam and Straw pressing weekend, where you can see cider being made using a "workman" steam driven press and our 1850 hand screw press.'

Weekend cider making course. £145 includes accom, plus a case of bottled apple juice and 40 pints of juice to ferment into cider.

  • The Somerset Cheese, Chutney and Cider Fair Sunday 8th October (10am-4.30pm)

The Mangledwurzels at The Somerset Cheese, Chutney and Cider Fair at Hestercombe Gardens, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Taunton TA2 8LG. This event, being run as part of the British Food Fortnight and the Exmoor Food Festival, will bring together some of the finest suppliers of local produce. Stalls selling a mouth-watering array of delicious foods and drinks will be set up in the courtyard and our café will be serving a special menu. Free admission event. The Mangledwurzels will be playing three sets at 11am, 12.30 and 2.30pm.

  • Great British Cheese Festival (Sat 30th Sept - Sun 1st Oct) Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham - Will feature a CAMRA Cider & Perry bar, and lots of cheese! There will also be tutored cider tastings on Sat and Sun (booking required).

The market square will be hosting a festival of fine food and drink and it's the drink side that should interest readers of this board!

There will be five ciders and two perries on sale alongside a good selection of real ales from local brewers. For a full listing of ciders and perries and beers please see the Abbey Stores website for more information.

  • Feast of Food & Fun, Narberth, Pembrokeshire Sept. 23rd and 24th

Now in its eighth year our celebration of fine food and local produce has become one of Pembrokeshire's major events. This year the Festival will be bigger than ever as lovers of gourmet food flock to enjoy the wealth of Pembrokeshire produce and international food on display.

A must for any lover of fine food, the Narberth Food Festival is the place to indulge yourself, with Cider, Apple Juice, Beers, Wines, Spirits as well as succulent Welsh Black beef and Welsh lamb, fine Welsh cheeses, Pembrokeshire potatoes and organic fruit and vegetables on display and for sale.

  • Perry Event at the Malvern Show, Worcestershire Sept. 23rd and 24th

For anyone who might be attending The Autumn Show at The Three Counties Showground, Malvern this weekend Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th or if Perry is of particular interest.

There is a Perry Special Stand in the Avon Hall with:

  • a display of over 60 varieties of perry pear (the largest for many years),
  • a display by Chris Horn from the USA of all things Perry from America,
  • Orchard, Hive and Vine are selling a selection of perries from Three Counties Producers and maybe beyond,
  • local orchard groups have displays,
  • as do Slow Food
  • and also producer stands including Oliver's and Gwatkins on the showground.
  • Artist Jonathan Latimer is painting and displaying his works.
  • Also “Walk with Talk” round the National Collection of Perry Pears at the showground with Chris Fairs from Bulmers at 2.00pm on Saturday when he will be talking about “Orcharding of Perry Pears” and
  • On Sunday at 2.00pm, Charles Martell, the collection originator will be talking about “Varieties of Perry Pear”.
  • Thatchers Open Day Somerset 23rd September

Just to let anyone who’s local or just passing by that we’re having an open day here at Thatchers (directions at http://www.thatcherscider.co.uk) tomorrow from 12 til 3pm, there will be tours of the site and free tastings for anyone who’s interested. Hopefully the weather will hold out and it should be good day.

The 'Clytha Arms' - Clytha - Nr Raglan.

The public camping area at the 'Clytha Arms' is now fully booked on the Saturday and Sunday nights, but they are taking bookings now for Monday night (the festival is running Monday evening this year for the first time!).

As well as all of your old favourite Welsh cidermakers, there's a good half dozen new since last year.

Bus travellers can use the Rainbow 3 service that runs between Nottingham and Mansfield, every 10 mins during the day, every 30 mins in the evening, the closest stop being about 30 yards from the Festival Hall entrance.
