Brothers Cider is a brand of bottled industrial flavoured pear cider originating in Somerset but now widely available nationally.

About
The cider is made with a carefully selected pear juice concentrate using a fermentation process that's been developed over generations using "Babycham" technology, using their own yeast culture. It is claimed that during fermentation the drink is kept under pressure, retaining full natural carbonation. How fermentation continues under these conditions is unclear. Brothers is made from pear concentrate, using a yeast culture and cannot in any way be considered "real" cider. It is effectively a Babycham for the alcopop generation and should be regarded as industrial cider.
According to Alan Stone's book "The Somerset Cider Handbook", Brothers Pear Cider is made from 100% imported Conference Pear concentrate.
History
Brothers Cider is manufactured in Shepton Mallet, by four brothers of the Showerings "Babycham" dynasty.
In 1995 Glastonbury Festival gave space to the Brothers Bar and now it appears at many festivals accross the country including the Download Festival. For thirsty festival goers, Brothers cider is often their first encounter with cider which may lead to a lingering affection for the brand.
Flavours
Unfortunately the bottles carry no ingredient labelling information, so whether the flavours are natural or synthetic is uncertain.
Brothers Cider is available in four variations including:
- Festival Strength Pear Cider - 7.0% abv "Perry", The favourite for festival-goers.
- Pear Cider - 4.7% abv "Perry", Light and naturally sparking with a clean and refreshing taste
- Original Apple Cider - 4.7% abv Fresh Apple cider made in a traditional West Country method.
- Strawberry and Pear Cider - 4.7% abv Strawberry infused pear cider. Bright in colour, sweet in smell with a good balance of sweetness and acidity.
All ciders are sold by in 500ml bottles or in cups and plastic bottles at festivals.
Brothers Cider Bus
The Brothers Cider Bus is a mobile cider shop that visits music festivals providing Brothers cider, as well as now being a line of bottled cider in its own right.
